The History of Wedding Planners
Take a second to think about your grandmother's wedding. Or your mother's wedding. Most likely, neither one of them would have even considered a Wedding Planner. Maybe, they had never even heard of a Wedding Planner?! What has changed between then and now... to spur on this relatively new facet of the wedding industry? In my humble opinion, I would attribute it to two major areas.
Guest List 101
I am convinced there is only one way to keep your Guest List organized: on an Excel Spreadsheet. Here are some basic steps to follow:
- You'll want to categorize your guests into groups such as Groom's family, Bride's family, friends, work, neighbors, etc. This will help ensure you don't forget anyone.
- I recommend listing families or couples that live together on the same line item. For instance, you may list husband and wife duo, "Jon and Cindy Brown" on the same line because they will receive one invitation at one address. The number of line items will eventually act as your count for save-the-dates or invitations once it's time to order.
Setting the Budget
The New Year is often marked by new beginnings- and many of you may find yourself starting 2008 as newly engaged and just beginning to plan your perfect day. The holiday season is the peak engagement period and brides universally are now celebrating their new fiancé status! This is a time to ENJOY: revel in your relationship, show off your ring, and share the proposal with friends and family. However, a word of CAUTION to new brides-to-be: be prepared to handle inquiring minds! There's nothing quite like a new engagement ring to open the flood gates with questions like, "When are you getting married?" "Where are you getting married?" or "Have you started dress shopping?" Hmmm... you may not have thought about ANY of these answers and may be wondering "Why can't people just slow down for a minute and let me bask in the beauty of this diamond on my finger?!" And yes, you have permission to do so!
